How do I maintain my outboard engine ?
Flush the cooling system with fresh water for 10–15 minutes after every saltwater use. Change the 10W-30 marine engine oil and SAE 90 gear lube every 100 hours or annually. Inspect the sacrificial zinc anodes and water pump impeller for wear to prevent internal engine corrosion.
What size engine does my boat need ?
Match the engine horsepower to the maximum rating listed on your boat’s capacity plate. As a rule of professional rigging, your outboard should provide at least 70% to 80% of that maximum limit. Underpowering forces the engine to overwork, drastically reducing fuel efficiency and lifespan.
What is the difference between 2-stroke and 4-stroke ?
Yes, provided the outboard features marine-grade aluminum alloys and sacrificial zinc or aluminum anodes. Saltwater accelerates galvanic corrosion, requiring immediate fresh water flushing after deployment.
